There are many ways traveling to Lao Cai province, but travel to Sapa 2 days 1 night by bus is the most convenient and easiest one to save your money. You could go to Sapa by different means of transport, let make a comparison about the cost you have to pay.

By motorbike:


Many youngsters love to experience Sapa by motorbike but this bears risk when you make a ride more than 320km (motorbike cannot go on Noi Bai - Lao Cai hwy). It is even more dangerous when you go up the Sapa pass. Road there is so zigzag. You should be the backpackers with time unlimited and healthy to do the trip by this way.

By train to Sapa 2 days 1 night:

The train starts from Hanoi at 8:50pm or 9:50pm (SP3) and arrives Lao Cai in the next early morning. But you can not reach Sapa by train. From Lao Cai, you have to pay more money for local bus to Sapa town. It costs 3 - 4$/each for public bus.

By private car:


If you are group of 2 - 5 people want to get to Sapa you could hire a private car. You could have your own driver but by this way it cost quite a lot. You have to pay at least 300$ only for transportation not to mention foods, accommodation, guide in Sapa, entrance ticket...

By bus for Sapa 2 days 1 night tour:


This is highly recommended. You are secured all the services from the beginning till the end. 2014, the Noi Bai - Lao Cai highway was opened for vehicles. It is much more convenient, saver and takes less time. There are a few tour operators in Hanoi started to take travelers to Sapa for 2 days 1 night by bus since late 2014. You start from the Old Quarter at 7am then get on the bus and arrive Sapa around 12:30pm. Sapa district is the land inhabited by 6 different ethnic groups including Hmong 27.324 (51,65%), Dao 12.189 (23,04%), Kinh 9.472 (17,91%), Tày 2.507 (4,74%), Giay 720 (1,36%), Xa Pho 563 (1,06%). These groups have long been in good harmony like brothers coming from same family.


Sapa nowadays known as the number 1 destination for ttravellers visiting Vietnam. Sapa is unique and different from the rest. To visit Sapa, travellers could go by train or by bus. Sapa travelling overview


Sapa located nearly 350 km to the northwest of Hanoi. This cloud-covered town is at 1550 m above the sea level and has cool weather all year round. Here, there are a number of fabulous mountains including the peak of Indochina – Fansipan with the 3143m elevation.

When to Go?
